The Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL) is a multidisciplinary professional engineering institution in Sri Lanka. IESL offers membership in different categories such as; Student Member, Affiliate Member, Associate Member, Corporate Member, Fellow Member, Associate and Companion. Chartered Engineer status is exclusively given by the IESL and corporate membership of the institution is required to acquire the status.
Requirements for Corporate Members
Eligibility Requirements
A candidate for election as a Corporate Member is required to possess academic qualifications acceptable to the Institution in one of the many disciplines of engineering, along with adequate training and experience in that particular discipline. The aggregate of periods in respect of engineering education, training and responsible experience shall not be less than eight years at the time of applying. He/she is also required to have attained several competencies which will be assessed at a Professional Review.

- Four Year full-time Engineering Degrees Accredited by the IESL
or - Four Year full-time Engineering Degrees Recognized by the IESL
or - Non-accredited / Non-recognized Four Year Engineering Degrees / Academic Qualifications by the IESL Evaluating Academic Qualifications for AMIE (SL) by Individual Candidates (EDU-DOC-01)
or - A full-time four-year engineering degree from a foreign university accredited under Washington Accord
and - Fulfilment of entry requirements stipulated by the IESL

Requirements for Associate
Eligibility Requirements
The requirement for membership :
Age : Minimum age is 25 years.
Eligibility : Every candidate for admission or transfer to the class of Associate shall satisfy the Council that he ;
- Is the one who is holding a post of Engineer while holding the responsibilities of an Engineer in a recognized organization as determined by the council.
- Has successfully completed the course of studies leading to the National Diploma in Technology at the University of Moratuwa or other equivalent qualifications approved by the Council.
- Three passes in G.C.E Advanced Level Examination in mathematics stream.
and - Has successfully completed an approved period of training and experience which is not less than 10 years.

Requirements for Companion

- More than 35 years of age.
- Engaged in the practice of or associated with engineering and
- Attained a position of responsibility as an engineer or
- Qualified to concur with engineers in the advancement of engineering.
