Accreditation of Degrees
The Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL) oversees the Engineering Profession in Sri Lanka in accordance with the provisions set out in its Act of Incorporation, the Act No. 17 of 1968. The IESL accredits four year and three year full time degree programmes related to engineering, conducted in Sri Lanka.
The Accreditation Board of the Institution sets out the policies, criteria and procedures related to the accreditation of the four and three year full time degree programmes and these are provided in detail in the respective Accreditation Manuals.
The IESL became a signatory to the Washington Accord on June 13, 2014.
Being a signatory to the Washington Accord, the four year full time engineering degree programmes accredited by the IESL will be considered as substantially equivalent to four year engineering degree programmes that have been accredited by the other signatories to the Washington Accord. A signatory to the Washington Accord is empowered by the Accord to accredit only those degree programmes conducted within the jurisdiction (country) of the signatory.
Graduates with four year accredited engineering degrees from local Universities after 2014/06/13 are deemed to be recognized by other Washington Accord signatories and deemed to have met academic requirements for practice in the respective countries of those signatories.
Details of the accredited degree programs and the respective accreditation manuals are as follows.
